The Jigawa State Government has declared Wednesday, as a work-free day to commemorate the 34th anniversary of the creation of the state.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the State Head of Service, Alhaji Muhammad K. Dagaceri, on Tuesday, and released through the Office of the Head of Service’s Public Relations Officer, Ismaila Ibrahim Dutse.
The government congratulated the people of Jigawa on the milestone and urged them to use the occasion for prayers and reflection.
The statement read: “It is hoped that all public servants and the entire people of the state will utilise the one-day break in thanking the Almighty Allah for His blessings and for the peaceful coexistence being enjoyed.”
Dagaceri added that the day should serve as a reminder of the progress the state has made since its creation in 1991, and the need to continue working together for development.
“We felicitate with all Jigawa citizens and encourage everyone to rededicate themselves to the growth of the state.
“Our collective efforts will determine the legacy we leave for future generations,” he said.
Jigawa State was created out of the old Kano State on August 27, 1991, by former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.
Since then, the state has marked its anniversary yearly to celebrate its journey of growth, unity, and governance.
The government also called on residents to uphold peace and harmony while contributing positively to the state’s progress.
“Let us remember that Jigawa is our home, and together, with prayers and dedication, we can achieve greater development,” the statement added.
The anniversary will be observed statewide, with civil servants and the general public expected to join in prayers and celebrations.
