Ayra Starr Raises Alarm Over Possible ‘Mami Water’ Allegations As ‘Hot Body’ Trend Sparks Debat

Nigerian pop sensation Ayra Starr has expressed worry that her latest social media trend tied to her new single, Hot Body, may attract conspiracy theories and accusations against her.

The singer, who recently signed with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, shared her concerns in a post on her X handle, writing:

Quote

“I better not get any mami water allegation because of this hot body video.”
The Hot Body trend, created by the artist and her team, encourages young women to showcase their looks while dancing to the track. While it has quickly gained traction online, it has also attracted criticism, with some accusing the 22-year-old of promoting nudity.

Singer Jaywon joined the debate, questioning Ayra Starr’s fashion choices and suggesting that she lacks parental guidance in her career.

The controversy mirrors past conspiracy theories involving Nigerian stars. In 2023, Ayra’s label mate Rema was accused of using “satanic and Illuminati” imagery during his headline show at London’s O2 Arena. He later clarified that the horse and mask used in his performance were cultural artifacts inspired by the Benin Kingdom and the Queen Idia mask.

In a 2025 interview with Rolling Stone, Rema also dismissed persistent rumors about devil worship and blood rituals, stressing that his artistry is rooted in African heritage, not mysticism.

As Ayra Starr’s Hot Body continues to dominate online conversations, fans remain divided between celebrating her bold style and questioning the cultural implications of her new wave.
