Newcastle United betrayed me – Alexander Isak

Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak has released a statement concerning the transfer saga at the Tyneside club as we count down to the end of the summer transfer window.

The Swedish international posted his statement on his official Instagram account on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, having confirmed that things have broken between himself and the club. According to Alexander Isak, there was an agreement between him and Newcastle United concerning his future at the club.

What did Alexander Isak say about his future at Newcastle United?

Isak said his relationship with Newcastle United cannot continue after they failed to agree on the terms of his contract.

He said,

When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue. I am proud to be recognised by my fellow professionals with a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season for 2024/25. First and foremost I want to thank my teammates and everyone at Newcastle United who has supported me along the way.

He continued,

“I am not at the ceremony tonight. With everything going on, it didn’t feel right to be there. I have kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken. That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn’t reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors. The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. To act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading. When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue. That’s where things are for me right now – and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.”

What is next for Alexander Isak?

Isak has been it clear from the beginning of the transfer window that he is only interested in joining Liverpool. The Reds have submitted their first bid for Isak which has been rejected by Newcastle United.

However, reports from Anfield have suggested that they won’t break the bank to sign Isak and Newcastle are not willing to let him leave until they sign at least two strikers to fill in the boot.
