Afrobeats Singer Fido breaks silence on former label dispute

by favour john

Afrobeats artist Fido has spoken out about a tense fallout with his former record label and management, accusing them of withholding the bulk of his advance payment and stalling his career progress.

In a recent radio interview, the singer alleged that from a $20,000 advance, he received only about ₦1.5 million (just over $1,000), claiming the team kept as much as 95% of the funds.

“I was transparent with them even when I was still with them, but they took all my advance from me… they gave me just ₦1.5 million out of $20,000,” Fido stated, insisting that he has evidence to back his claims.

The interviewer suggested that the dispute could be resolved through legal channels, particularly since the contract of Fido with the record label has already been terminated. They also recommended involving his current partners at Empire, as well as industry stakeholders like MK, to help revive ongoing projects and move past the setback.

Fido revealed that the behind-the-scenes conflict took a toll on his career, even as fans speculated about his reduced visibility in the music scene.

“People never knew what I was facing. They just thought, ‘Ah, this boy, this…’ But they never knew the battles behind the scenes,” he said.
