Veteran actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli has opened up about the secret to her 24-year marriage with husband Nnamdi Oboli, pointing to a shared, unwavering commitment that began even before their wedding in 2000.
In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Omoni revealed that a crucial part of their marital success was the firm decision to never consider divorce as an option.
“Staying married for over two decades… First things first, you have to decide. It’s a decision. From day one, we decided that divorce was not an option—even before we got married,” she said.
The actress emphasised the importance of forgiveness in marriage, noting that most conflicts can be resolved if both parties are willing to move past the hurt.
“There’s almost nothing someone can do that you can’t forgive, if you want to forgive. We all have to realise that we’re all sinners,” she added.
Opening up further, Omoni described the early days of her marriage as turbulent. She revealed that the couple had a very brief courtship—her husband proposed just two weeks after they met, and they tied the knot four months later.
“I was young. Till today, I don’t know how I agreed to marry him so quickly. But I know I fell in love with the way my husband loved me,” she confessed.
Despite the rocky start, she said their prior decision to stay committed carried them through the tough times and solidified their bond.
Omoni also connected her personal experience to her latest film project, the sequel After a Night in July, which she described as deeply personal because it reflects parts of her marital journey.
In a caption for a promotional video, she wrote: “After a Night in July is so special to me because parts of it mirror my real life. My husband proposed two weeks in, and we married four months later! Our first year was turbulent, but we chose love. If you’re married or intend to marry, you’ll learn, laugh, and love.”
