A 27-year-old man, simply identified as Obakpororo, has confessed to killing the mother of his two sons while under the influence of drugs.
Speaking at the Delta State Police Command headquarters in Asaba, the suspect admitted that he had taken 200mg of tramadol and smoked ‘loud’—a street name for high-grade cannabis before the tragic incident.
According to him, the violence erupted after he discovered that his girlfriend, Excellence, was allegedly involved in “hook-up” activities, a local term for transactional sex.
“She came to my place with some clothes and ‘Vegas.’ We started arguing. She picked up a knife, and I picked up a hammer,” he said.
He claimed to have overpowered her, then struck her three times on the forehead with the hammer.
“I didn’t know she would die. When I realised she was dead, I jumped from a storey building, trying to kill myself, but I survived,” he added.
Obakpororo, who said he was involved in internet fraud and farming, used the moment to warn other youths against drug abuse.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed that the incident happened in Sapele between June 26 and 27, 2025.
“The suspect initially fled the scene but was later apprehended,” Edafe stated.
