On-Duty Police Sergeant, Irimiya Iyas Kills Community Leader; Investigation Launched

A serving police officer, Sergeant Irimiya Iyas of the 57 Mobile Police (MOPOL) unit, is in custody following the fatal shooting of Uzuor Ezekiel, Secretary of the Ibiyima Community Development Association (CDA). The incident occurred in Asaba, Delta State.

Sergeant Iyas, armed with an AK-47 rifle (breech number 09331), initially reported the shooting to the Agbor Police Division, claiming it was accidental. Responding officers transported Ezekiel to the General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Recovered from Sergeant Iyas were the AK-47 rifle and four rounds of ammunition. He was immediately arrested and is currently being questioned.

Delta State Police Command authorities have assured the public of a thorough investigation and a commitment to justice. The killing has sparked outrage and calls for accountability within the Ibiyima community. The investigation is ongoing.
