Veteran actress and activist Hilda Dokubo has stirred up conversation with a thought-provoking post on X (formerly Twitter), where she questioned the sincerity of former political leaders like David Mark and Nasir El-Rufai, who are reportedly spearheading a new coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while their children are firmly members of the ruling APC.
In her post, Dokubo wrote:
“Why and how?
Below is Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, and Blessing Onyeche Onuh both of them are members of the House of Representatives. One is the daughter of David Mark and the other is the son of Nasir El Rufa’i, both of them belong to the APC, while their fathers are leaders of the ADC coalition. Their fathers claim they want to rescue Nigerians from the APC! Please are their fathers trying to rescue us from their children? Haa people we need to start asking the right questions.”
Mohammed Bello El-Rufai is the son of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, and currently represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency under the APC.
Blessing Onyeche Onuh is the daughter of former Senate President David Mark, and represents Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency under the APC.
Hilda Dokubo is pointing out a seeming contradiction — how can political leaders claim to oppose a system (APC) while their own children are active beneficiaries of it? Her concern echoes broader public skepticism about elite political maneuvering in Nigeria, where family ties often transcend party lines, leading to accusations of hypocrisy or political opportunism.
She is essentially calling for Nigerians to scrutinize political coalitions more closely and question the genuineness of those who claim to bring change, especially when their immediate families are still entrenched in the old order.
