Akwa Ibom Commissioner resigns after Gov Eno dumped PDP for APC

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Seaport, Ini Ememobong, resigned from his position on June 6, 2025, following Governor Umo Eno’s defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a Facebook post, Ememobong stated that he was unable to join the governor on this political journey due to his firm belief in politics with principles and his longstanding opposition to the APC. He emphasized that his decision was not a reflection of his personal relationship with Governor Eno, whom he described as a brother, but rather a matter of political conviction.

Governor Eno had previously announced plans to defect to the APC and instructed all his appointees to follow suit or resign. Ememobong’s resignation aligns with this directive, as he chose to step down rather than join the APC. He expressed gratitude to both Governor Eno and former Governor Udom Emmanuel for their trust and support during his tenure.

This development highlights the ongoing political shifts in Akwa Ibom State, as key figures navigate the changing party dynamics.
