Truck falls off Pen Cinema Bridge, crushes two buses in Lagos

A fully loaded truck (GGE 624 YJ) lost control while navigating the Pen Cinema Bridge and fell onto two commercial Volkswagen buses parked underneath.

The accident occurred earlier today, April 26, along Agege, Old Abeokuta Road.

Thankfully, the buses were empty.

According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the truck driver sustained severe fractures to both hands. He was rescued by LASTMA officials and handed over to Elere Police officers before being taken to the General Hospital, Ile-Epo, for urgent treatment.

LASTMA operatives cordoned off the scene, diverted traffic, and worked with the LASEMA Response Unit to clear the wreckage, restoring normal traffic flow.

Expressing concern over the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, urged motorists, especially truck drivers, to exercise extra caution during the rainy season. He emphasized the importance of adhering to road safety rules and complying with newly installed speed-limiting devices to prevent future accidents.

He also wished the injured driver a speedy recovery.
